Grade 7-8 music students must choose one of the following instruments:
Woodwinds: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone
Brass: Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba

Instruments are available to rent, purchase or finance from “Long and McQuade” (3180 Mainway Drive, Burlington 905-319-3330). You’ll want to make sure that you have the following pieces:
Woodwinds: Mouthpiece, Ligature and Cap as well as Multiple reeds (2 ½), Cork grease
Brass: Mouthpiece and valve/slide oil

ALL students will also need the following book:
Standard of Excellence Book 1 (red cover) ($8-10) for each student’s specified instrument (check that the book you picked up says the name of the instrument you are playing).
most grade 7s and 8s will already have this book from last year.

Please label your instrument case and book with your name **

I would highly recommend sticking with the instrument you are currently playing (if you played an instrument last year). If, however, you are completely frustrated with your choice, please email me and we will talk about other options - I want you to enjoy music class! If you have not played an instrument before, you can go to Long and McQuade and they will let you try out different instruments until you find the one that works for you (but only instruments from the list above).

Please note that if you are starting a new instrument this year, you will need to put in some extra practice to get caught up with the rest of the class who started playing their instruments in Grade 6.

If anyone would like to take private lessons on their instrument, please contact our SOTA program at school - they offer a variety of private lessons!
